Stay in sirince 10 minutes from Ephesus

My experience with this property took place in:

April, 2004

I’m planning to go back to Turkey. As I searched the web, I found the Terrace Houses in Sirince had appeared on the internet. It brought back a flood of memories.
Climbing the hill in the mini-bus from Selcuk to find myself in the cool of a village square: being taken, on foot, through narrow streets, to a low roofed, white-painted house with shuttered windows: waking to sunshine slicing the shadows and the sound of donkeys braying: breakfast in the garden with bread from the baker who forgave my attempt at Turkish with a smile and a friendly shrug.
Ephesus was a hot 20 minute taxi-ride away. But what a spectacle! And how pleasant to retreat up the hill in the cool of the evening: to drink local wine in a restaurant overlooking the darkening streets of an almost traffic free town, awash with a sense of the past.
I don’t know if it has changed. I think I will go back to check.
The house we stayed in was clean, stylish and comfortable. There were always English speakers on hand to help with any problems. Walks in the hills began on the doorstep. Restaurant food was cheap and good.

Eating out in SIRINCE

Snb20019

Don’t miss a three course candle lit meal at your favourite spot in Terrace Houses.  Just let us know in the morning and we can discuss the menu and then have the meal ready and serve it to you at your favourite spot that evening or on the open air terrace overlooking the village.

Resim 102

Terrace Cafe …. where you can find the best breakfast in the region..  www.ephesushousessirince.com

There are many places to choose from but here are a few of our favourites but if you have any NEW recommendations please write them in the guest book for others to try.

Üzüm is a classy restaurant opened in a beautifully renovated house just in front of Terrace Houses.  Run by a delightful husband and wife team who have run away from Istanbul to enjoy the good life it offers ambiance and excellent home cooking.  It can offer a wealth of vegetarian “meze” to graze from and this can be followed by wafer thin liver or tender meat balls.  They have delicious home made cakes and cappuccino all day as well.  Open all year round.  Expensive but special with a good choice of Turkish wines

Church..

For a splendid lunch all year round try UNAL PIDE in the covered market it has tables both outside and in.  The restaurant faces the village coffee shop where all the locals hang out.  The food is excellent and cheap and you can get freshly squeezed orange juice.  There is a menu in English but the food consists of Turkish pizza which has no tomato sauce but you can have freshly sliced tomatoes instead cooked in a wood burning oven.  They also serve delicious mushrooms cooked in a terracotta dish in the oven or pieces of chicken or lamb cooked in a sizzler dish. In the summer fresh Gozleme grilled on a skillet and filled with cheese or hillside herbs should not be missed. Very reasonable prices  0232 898 3042

pervin teyze

  • For a village experience go up the hill behind the church and find PERVIN TEYZE who is particularly friendly and will invite you into her garden and find you a seat with a view and then serve you freshly made gozleme with a range of fillings and her own homemade wine.
  • village view

    Very cheap TEPEBASI GOZLEME 0232 898 3083

For a drink with a view or a good but somewhat touristy meal try  ARTEMIS  in the old school building at the entrance to the village.  This is where many tour buses come for lunch as the view is spectacular, so the food is fresh but rather unprepossessing. For a drink there are wonderful tables under the enormous pine trees overlooking the village where you can sip wine or a cup of Turkish coffee.

  • ARCHIPEL  Restaurant, across the road from Artemis, has both indoor and outdoor facilities and is open all year round.  Sometimes it offers live music at weekends and it has a large menu and wine list and a warm and welcoming ambiance.
  • Archipel is also the sister company of  Kırkınca Evleri, run by a hard working family from the village..

 sun set in Sirince stripped

  • OCAK BASI  is a family restaurant run by Ali and has a big choice of village dishes including a beef stew called “guvec” and fried aubergines and potatoes in a yogurt and garlic sauce called ‘kızartma’.  The children in the family do the service and speak English but you are welcome to go in the kitchen and look at the range of dishes from which to make your choice.  Out of season it is best to tell them in advance that you will be coming that evening or the next day so that they can prepare for you. This is just beside the restored church.

  • LE JARDIN  is open all year and has a lovely garden where you can eat and enjoy the valley around you.  It is on the central drag into town and has a selection of local foods as well as some unusual dishes such as chicken teriyaki salad.  The owners are friendly and helpful and if you can’t be bothered to make your own breakfast you can get one here.

Ephesus and seven churches

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on October 24, 2008 by ephesus2012

Though the book of Revelation was penned by the hand of the Apostle John, it is claimed that these letters emanate directly from the lips of the ascended and glorified Jesus Christ. Stott notes that “in them, by praise and censure, warning and exhortation, He makes plain much of His will for His people. The seven churches of Asia, though historical, represent the local churches of all ages and of all lands”. The onslaught on the Church was physical through a persecuting emperor and his deputies, intellectual through false cults, and moral through sub-Christian ethical standards. As we look around the world today, the same pressures are harassing different churches and the messages in these letters are also for the Church in the world. Stott says “it’s a call to Christians to endure tribulation, to hold fast to the truth, to resist the deceptions of the devil and to obey the commandments of God.” In each of the seven letters, which follow, the risen Christ lays emphasis, either in rebuke or in commendation, of one particular characteristic of an ideal church. Put together, these characteristics constitute the seven marks of a true and living church.

The Letter to Ephesus urges Christians to return to a love for Christ (Rev. 2:3-4 “You have left your first love”). The Apostle Paul spent two and a half years here on his 3rd missionary journey, and in Acts 19, a riot broke out over the drop in sales of the silver models of Diana’s temple. According to an early tradition John replaced Timothy towards the end of the first century as leader of the Ephesian church, and probably wrote his first epistle for them. The excavations done by Austrians are considered to be the largest excavated ruins in the world.

What did Ephesus enthusiasts say about the cottages..?

We had the best time at the Olive House in Sirince…Truly a unique experience….The Olive house is an old stone house restored to its original charm with great attention to detail and history….If you visit Turkey and you want a true feeling of what Turkey is about, you must go to this little village on top of a mountain…Sirince…
We must compliment the owner Omer for the extraordinary work he did restoring these homes – there are 3 of them, the Olive, the Fig and the Grapevine house… Both Omer and Aysel welcomed us and made our stay at the Olive House very pleasant…Aysel made us the best omlet ever! This house even though old has the best smell ever…a mixture of lavender, mint and vanilla… I could not get enough of it!
If you go to Turkey, you must go to Sirince and stay in one of these Houses….It is an experince you will not forget.

On my 3rd trip to delightful historic village of Sirince I had the pleasure to stay at Fig House ephesus, one of the cottages… It was a superb location with a fantastic view over the whole village. It was extremely quiet and had the added benefit of being able to drive a car quite near the door (many properties in the village have foot access only). In April the fields of sirince were full of brilliant poppies and everything looked so fresh. Tried to visit at New Year’s but they were full – hope to return in this April

In the year of 10 BC, Androclos, the son of King of Athens-Kodros, was searching a location for establishing a site. Androclos belonged to Akhas, was running from the Dor invasion in Greece. He was leading one of the migration convoys. It was predicted by an Apollon oracle that a fish and a boar would show the location of the new settlement. Days later, parallel to the oracle’s prediction, while frying, a fish fell down from the pan, irritating a hiding boar behind the bushes. The feared boar escaped immediately. Androclos followed the boar and established the city of Ephesus, where he had killed the boar. When Androclos died in the wars with Carians, a mausoleum was built to the memory of the first king of Ephesus. The mausoleum is considered to be placed around “The Gate of Magnesia
